You Ask - I Answer
Have a question you’d like to ask? I’m committed to giving patients the best care and experience I can. There’s no such thing as a bad question when it comes to mental health. Check out the answers to the FAQs below, and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any additional questions.
WHY DO PEOPLE GO TO THERAPY?
People come to therapy to get help. The impetus for therapy is as unique and diverse as the individuals who seek it, but typically people come to find assistance they haven't found in other areas of their life. Some of the issues that may cause someone to seek therapy include struggling with depression, anxiety, phobias, addiction, PTSD, ADHD, grief and loss, conflict resolution and poor communication in couples and family systems, and self-exploration to sometimes determine career, relationship and personal goals.
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR AN INITIAL THERAPY SESSION?
Inspirited Mind is a high-demand practice, so for this reason we use an enrollment system for our appointments. This means you are allocated a day and a time per week, fortnight, or month for your regular appointment with us. We have a wait-list for our most in-demand times, which are often later in the day and after hours. Please call us on xxxx to inquire about our availability or to join our wait-list for the time that you want.
Wait times can vary from a week to a month, depending on the demand for the day and time you want. If you are available for daytime appointments, it's likely we can see you for your initial assessment session within a shorter time frame.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST THERAPY SESSION?
In your first session, the therapist typically will ask certain questions about you and your life. This information helps determine an initial assessment of your situation. Questions may involve why you sought therapy, your personal situation and current situation and your current symptoms. The therapist will use this information to better understand your problem. And, while a diagnosis may be made at the end of your first visit, it’s more likely that a diagnosis will take a few more sessions.
CAN IÂ BRING OTHERS WITH ME TO MY THERAPY SESSIONS?
In some settings, therapy may involved other people. In others, your therapy session will only involve you and your therapist. Different circumstances will dictate who should attend your therapy session and what type of therapy will be practiced. Many therapists work with couples and some work with families. Some also work with two or more people who are not in a romantic or family relationship. Aside from that, when an individual adult is having a mental health or life issue, generally they go to therapy alone.
In some cases, when that individual feels so anxious or so depressed that he or she cannot get to therapy without someone else, a therapist may agree to have both of them come initially. Also, young children who go to therapy generally take their parents with them, at least the first time.
HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE?
Individual and couple sessions are for 50 minutes unless prior arrangements are made. Please contact us on xxx to inquire about our availability.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I ATTEND MY THERAPY SESSIONS?
The best outcomes for therapy are possible when relationship counselling appointments are scheduled and attended regularly. Every person is different, however, current research suggests that it can take at least 3-4 months of psychotherapy to establish long lasting changes. Research also shows that if you experience positive change sooner rather than later, this is a good indicator of getting the results you want. For this reason, we track your progress closely and ask for your feedback. Together we determine how often you will attend based on your needs and schedule, which may be weekly, fortnightly or monthly. In our experience, the clients that have the most positive outcomes from therapy attend sessions on a regular basis.
ARE MY THERAPY SESSIONS CONFIDENTIAL?
Yes. Your confidentiality is of paramount importance to us. Our counselors are members of several professional counselling organisations and adhere to their code of ethics in regard to this.
WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE MY APPOINTMENT OR I NEED TO CANCEL?
All sessions are booked on an enrollment system. This means you are allocated a day and a time per week, fortnight or month for your appointment with us. This is to ensure you receive a regular ongoing appointment with us. You are liable for payment of your session fee regardless of notice given. Fees must be paid in full for any missed or cancelled appointments beyond the control of Inspirited Mind. Â Two weeks written (email) or verbal notice to your therapist must be given to cease your enrollment. Regular attendance at your therapy sessions is directly related to experiencing good outcomes and resolution of your issues.
WHAT IS THE COST OF A THERAPY SESSION?
Please contact us to inquire about our fees and how we work.
DO YOU OFFER SLIDING SCALE RATES?
No. We are private practitioners and not funded by government bodies so we are unable to offer reduced rates.
If you are experiencing financial difficulties, we will be happy to speak to you and suggest some not-for-profit organisations that offer low-cost counselling to those in need.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF YOU ARE THE RIGHT THERAPIST FOR ME?
To start with, I suggest you read our About page so that you can get a good sense of how Inspirited Mind works. Secondly, we offer a free, 15-minute telephone inquiry call as a starting point so we can speak together about your needs and how we can help. The first time we talk we’ll ask you to give us a brief description of the issues you would like to address in therapy and we’ll let you know how we may be able to help you. You can get a good sense of your counselor on this call and if you ‘click’. We’ll tell you when we’re available and talk to you about our fees and the way we work. If it feels like a good fit for both of us we’ll set up your initial assessment session. If we don’t think we are the best counselor for you, we are well connected to resources and would be happy to refer you to someone who may be better suited to you and your issue.
